Everyone knows when the Lips put on a show it is going to be out of this world, and the first-ever performance of the Lips at their hometown Zoo Amphitheatre was no exception. This show was special for many different reasons and seemed more like a homecoming for the band, who have been taking their show all over the world since they last played OKC. This time they were making a DVD and audio CD of the show which included an unveiling of a life-sized UFO (possibly from Christmas on Mars) in which Wayne made both his descent and ascent into the show. Wayne burst onto the show in his giant bubble, which despite a few technical difficulties was well worth the wait. Once back on stage, the crowd was assualted with their usual array of confetti, baloons, smoke machines and singing nuns. Micheal played in his skeletor costume and brought out a pair of giant hands for the love-fest version of "Do You Realize". The songs sounded great and Wayne seemed like he had a lot on his chest, to which the crowd responded understandingly. I was disappointed that they weren't able to perform more songs, especially after Wayne teased us about releasing the animals from the zoo next door. What with all the aliens and santas, it seemed a perfect setting for Christmas at the Zoo. But the show exploded into the air, set off by a few admiring superheroes below. Kurt and Stephen were the last on the spaceship, and the costumed crowd left in a frenzied murmur.
