I must admit seeing the Beastie Boys in concert I think every fan should have a chance to do. So despite whatever poltical or social conscience they have been trying to promote as of late, Michelle and I went to the show alone and were entertained from start to finish. Starting the show with a dog show and a Brooklyn rap act named Talib Kweli only fueled the anticipation for Mixmaster Mike being led through the front doors of American Airlines and straigh through the crowd to his 20 ft. D.J. stand where he looped L.L. Cool J with Jay/Z to warm the crowd for the 3 MC's that followed. Dressed in blue warm-up suits, they knocked me off of my feet by starting with one of my personal favorites, "Egg Man" before crashing into "Root Down", "Sure Shot" and my favorite from the touring album "Triple Trouble". A short interlude for Will Farrell to do a George Bush parody and then the bass dropped out on "Hello Brooklyn". Hardly a chance to catch your breath, the Beasties continued cranking out the hits more old than new before relaxing the crowd with a lounge-type act with bongos, horns and a stand-up bass.

Overall the crowd was extremely into the show, screaming lyrics at one another, dancing out of control, breakin, jumpin, hip-hoppin' as best as a crowd of mostly suburban whites could do. I was thoroughly impressed with their energy and the comedic interludes to make fun of themselves or the crowd. It just seemed like they put their adulthood on hold for a few hours and simply gave us their music and hysterics that we all grew up to love.

The second set brought the boys back in red t-shirts with their favorite board games like "Mah Jong", "Scrabble", and "Electronic Battleship" and picked up right where they left off, dusting off "Paul Revere", "Brass Monkey" and a few lines from the "New Style" before finishing their regular set with "So What'cha Want" and "Ch-Check It Out". MCA was mostly in the crowd slapping high fives or pointing the mike to the crowd and everyone responded accordingly. This climaxed in their encore which brought them up into the stands with a handycam to pipe out Intergalactic while engulfed by a sea of admiring fans. Their last few words brought out their distaste for President Bush, but respectfully asking everyone to simply vote and then dedicating Sabotage to George W himself.
