Watching a band 12 years later conjures up memories of Kansas or Styx at the Zoo Amphiteatre. But given an opportunity to see a band mature from visionaries to Vitalogy to vitality, is certainly a rarity I had no plans to let pass by. So a decade later -- Eddie's hair no longer in his face, mosh pits outlawed for safety, bans on ticketmaster lifted -- and one of the greatest alternative bands of our generation still reigns supreme.

Seattle's adopted grungers sprang up again on the second leg of their American tour, mired in controversy following Eddie's words against the war spoken earlier that week in Denver. Resisting conflict for the sake of conflict, the older Vedder carefully crafted his words in OKC... "I think I'll practice some freedom of speech", he warned, "... feel free to practice your freedom of silence", he added. But this concert wasn't about protest. It was about music -- hard to imagine so simple a concept recently -- a great band playing their music loud and singing their words harder. Oklahomans came out to support a band who was glad to still be Alive ... creating a palette highlighted by "Off He Goes", "Elderly Woman", and a 10 minute version of my favorite P.J. song "rearviewmirror".

Still able to impress over a decade later, Pearl Jam should be proud of what they've accomplished. And as the last few notes of "Yellow Ledbetter" finalized their second encore set, the band followed suit... sitting down on stage and letting Stone Gosssard remind us just how amazing and fresh he sounded just 12 short years ago.
