Yes, I am one of those Coldplay newbie's who heard "Yellow" for the first time last November and just fell in love. So all of you hardcore/grassroot fans can just stop reading now, or you could hear a review from the other side of the ocean -- where once again we look to the U.K. for some semblance of a fresh sound or a new voice to hang our faith on. Coldplay and Grandaddy graced Dallas' notorious Bronco Bowl one hot June night and took us on a beautiful journey into their minds and soul. Opening with "Shiver", the band hushed the auditorium with its crisp sound and Chris' melodic voice. They followed with one of their new songs, "Animals" I believe, before rattling off pretty much the whole "Parachutes" album (sans "Sparks", "High Speed" and the title song), including a magical sing-along on "Everything's Not Lost".

One of my favorite moments was during the introduction to "Yellow", where in quiet anticipation I learned that Chris had written the song about Flaming Lips lead singer, Wayne Cohen's, yellow jacket. Jon Buckland displayed his approval wearing a t-shirt from the obscure Oklahoma City band, that has long been one of my favorites. It was nice to see a British band paying homage to an American band. So, when they finally dove into the mesmerizing melody, the masses just exploded. We opened up our arms and let the band into our hearts, only able to reciprocate his own words back to him at the top of our lungs "... look at the stars, look how they shine for you". I am anxious for the new album, excited about "God Put a Smile On Your Face" and "In My Place", and hungry for more. If I were to complain, it would only be for a longer show and to hear "Bigger Stronger". Because on this hot summer night, all this small group of British lads did was give me hope for the future of alternative music.
